The Boundary Flood Recovery team put in a request last fall for funding for rip rap material, that is, large rocks that protect river banks from erosion. The provincial government approved funding to purchase the rip rap for the bank armouring project in South Ruckle. This is most of the cost of the project. Approval means that the quarries can blast, prepare, and deliver the large rocks in preparation for the rip rap placement. Previously, the Province funded the design and engineering work and it is well underway. An environmental management plan, archeological overview report, engineering design, and updated legal survey are required for permit approvals. Once the environmental permits are approved, the engineering design work is finalized, and the rip rap is staged, the placement of the rip rap may proceed. The team continues to work towards getting the final funding while the rest of the work proceeds.
