Crews are getting ready to begin armouring the river bank in South Ruckle. The proposed seven-week project will protect the bank from erosion from the public beach to the community garden. Large rock will be placed in the river and up to the top of the bank. It will not prevent water from coming over the top of the bank, but it will stop any more bank from falling into the river and effecting the critical infrastructure servicing the area.
Once the final permit is approved, from the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, large equipment will begin placing rock and fill. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans have expedited their process to accommodate the project’s tight timeline and the team is expecting approval shortly. When that approval is received, neighbours can expect noise from the machinery from 7am until 7pm on work days, and lots of truck traffic on the local roads.
